About this event
upup/OVER is a musical alter-ego of Mike Munson (Winona, MN)
featuring acoustic, instrumental guitar with an interstellar focus. Inspired
by time and space and the distance between humans and nature,
upup/OVER is an exploration of big issues through the lens of
American primitive guitar. To accompany the meditative movements,
images will be projected from the Webb telescope, an observatory
instrument that orbits the Sun 1 million miles away from Earth, studying
every phase in the history of the universe. May Klug is a Minneapolis-
based composer/performer and improviser whose deep relationships
with pieces of audio equipment and electronic instruments are a
bridge through which she explores the networks of technological
development, industry, and modern social life. Her performances
blend electroacoustic experimentalism with the visual aesthetics of
pop, high-femme fashion, and camp theatrics. May’s primary
electronic collaborators are Casio CZ-101 synthesizers, through
which she generates sounds that capture the natural process of
memory loss in volatile RAM. She also has built a variety of
feedback systems, and works with Max/MSP. Her work
celebrates the agency of these unpredictable machines.
