ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • North Mankato firefighters battled an early Saturday house fire on Belvista Drive that extensively damaged a hillside home; teams worked until 10 a.m. and used a transit bus as a warming shelter amid -20 temperatures, with no injuries reported and an investigation ongoing.  Mankato Free Press
  • A GoFundMe fundraiser to help New Ulm residents Naomi Hatfield and James Lane has raised $5,050 for their $7,000 goal after their pickup crashed on icy Highway 14 Jan. 16 — injuring Hatfield with facial fractures and a broken rib while Lane suffered a broken neck and may need surgery.  Mankato Free Press
  • In 2025, Minnesota recorded 370 traffic fatalities (a 22% decrease from 2024 and the fewest since 2019), despite a rise in bicycle deaths and marked drops in speed, unbelted, distraction and motorcycle fatalities.  Mankato Free Press

  • MSU hockey beat Augustana 4-1 on Saturday night at home as Ean Somoza scored twice — with goalie Alex Tracy stopping 16 shots, the Mavericks improved to a 13-8-5 record and will face Ferris State on Friday.  KEYC
