COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Greater Mankato Area United Way announced on Thursday that it reached its $2,450,000 campaign goal for its 11th straight year, fulfilling funding needs for 75 local partner organizations. Extra funds raised will support key community initiatives. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ The 2025 Kiwanis Holiday Lights show raised $110,000 for 71 nonprofits and collected over 9 tons of food while drawing more than 160,000 visitors (with over 2 million lights on display). The next show will open on Nov. 27. KEYC
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ North Mankato Taylor Library will host its annual Edible Book Festival from 1-3 p.m. on March 7, where local residents will create treats inspired by favorite books. Participants must register to compete and may win a $25 Barnes Noble gift card (registration is available in person or online). Mankato Free Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ South Central Minnesota EMS will host a pediatric care workshop for first responders on Saturday, Feb. 21 at New Richland City Hall. The event runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features interactive VR simulations (with mannequins and simulated emergencies) to strengthen pediatric skills for EMS staff and public. KEYC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Good Counsel redevelopment will proceed in phases under a City of Mankato project, starting with Isidore and Theresa halls + the Chapel in 2026-27. Remodeling of Notre Dame Hall will follow in 2027-28, with St. Joseph and Florian halls set for updates in 2028-30. Mankato Free Press
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership will host an open house next Thursday at 5:30 p.m. on campus to discuss its plans to redevelop Good Counsel Hill by converting dorms into apartments and other spaces while preserving century-old buildings. KEYC
