- ➤ Mankato City Council awarded $7,500 in Special Event Support Grants for 2026 to support three new events—a Juneteenth celebration, a youth softball tournament and an overdose awareness day—and to continue a December memorial event. The grants will help nonprofits host these community events later this year and next year. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ By March 11, Ace Hardware will operate in the former Joann Fabrics at Madison East Center’s east end (with a grand opening planned for early May). District managers Jon Listul and Tyler Swenson are preparing new shelves and displays in the 10,000 sqft space to serve a busy local crowd. Mankato Free Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ BBBS is expanding its youth mentoring program in Mankato to serve seven counties by partnering with the YMCA to reconnect former mentors with their littles (a move aiming to enroll 50 children). The group seeks to fill three positions to fully staff the program by March and will recruit additional mentors in May. KEYC
