- ➤ Christine Schaeffel, executive director of 3C Connection, is hosting a Black History Month event called Shining the Light on Feb. 27 at Jux (12 Civic Center Plaza, Suite 1700). The free event will run from 7-10 p.m. with a $5 fee after 10 p.m., featuring speakers such as Henry Morris. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ A Minnesota State Patrol trooper answered a public question by saying that alternatives such as sand, tire chains, mats, or boards work better than cat litter for traction on snowy roads since cat litter dissolves into a slippery mess.
