- ➤ Business on Belgrade Avenue in North Mankato has seen a 20% drop in sales after the Feb. 3 closure of Veterans Memorial Bridge, which has redirected traffic as MnDOT reconstructs the bridge until Nov. 1. Local business owners note that alternate routes have kept customer turnout steady despite the temporary setback. Mankato Free Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Mankato West High School has been under construction for nearly a year and remains behind schedule because of weather delays and ongoing classes. Crews hope the current good weather will help catch up - work on the new entrance and gym is expected to continue until 2027. KEYC
- ➤ At the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota, MathHappens Foundation from Austin has partnered to transform the museum's loft into a fun math space on Saturdays & Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. The hands-on program lets kids explore math concepts by building challenges like using pentagon shapes to form penguins. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Madelia Health was designated as a level IV trauma hospital by the Minnesota Department of Health Monday, Feb. 16 (after a year-long review) and will provide 24/7 emergency care and advanced trauma support to stabilize patients and arrange transfers if needed. KEYC
