COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Special Olympics Area 9 seeks volunteers for local sports events for intellectually disabled adults in south central Minnesota. A regional basketball tournament is scheduled at Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter this April & the USA Games will take place in Minneapolis in June.  KEYC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chick-fil-A announced it will open its first full-size restaurant in south-central Minnesota near River Hills Mall in Q3 or Q4 (pending delays); the new location at 1870 Adams Street will replace a closed Party City with a 5,400 sqft building featuring dual drive-thrus and seating for 86.  Mankato Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Children's Museum of Southern Minnesota will open Healthy Me on March 3 at 1 p.m. at 224 Lamm Street — an interactive exhibit where kids and families learn about health, wellness and early childhood development.  MankatoLIFE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Mankato City Council approved a $1.2 million project to install a new artificial turf field at the east practice field in Caswell North Soccer Complex to provide year-round play for local youth and high school teams; construction will begin May 4 and be completed by Aug. 14.  KEYC

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Mankato's historic Good Counsel campus is set for redevelopment with eight new single-family homes and nearly 50 apartments, plus guest suites and community event space; construction will begin in spring with occupancy expected by year-end. A community meeting Thursday showcased plans that include an assisted living center and chapel reuse.  Mankato Free Press

  • Mankato East gymnastics finished second in the Class A competition, plus area basketball teams will battle it out in Sports Extra this week.  KEYC
  • Minnesota State's men's hockey team is preparing for a series against Bowling Green as head coach Luke Strand outlines strategies + MSU indoor track star Miranda Lauvstad shares insights into her training for upcoming meets.  KEYC
  • Mount Kato season ticket holders said fresh snow has improved skiing conditions during this week’s storm, as management expects increased business with slopes groomed until mid-March. The resort also advised visitors to wear gloves and proper attire to stay safe on warmer, slick surfaces.  Mankato Free Press
