- ➤ Despite near-zero wind-chill, a long line of customers waited Sunday morning near a semi in Mankato parking lot to buy sweet strawberries from My Fruit Truck, a family-owned vendor based in Sioux Falls; the vendor said it will return to Mankato in March to offer walk-up and reserved orders. - ➤ MSU political science professors held a panel on democracy ahead of Tuesday's State of the Union address, discussing trends like rising political polarization and unchecked presidential power. They offered insights into challenges affecting free and fair elections and the changing role of nonpartisanship in government. Mankato Free Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MnDOT has chosen Every Day I’m Shovelin’ as the contest name winner for south-central Minnesota (nearly 19,000 ballots were cast) and it will join seven others in MnDOT's fleet soon. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ The City of Eagle Lake will offer up to $20,000 in forgivable child care loans to local licensed daycare providers who apply by March 2 to cover expenses plus operating costs, facility improvements and licensing fees. City officials say the program will help grow local child care services. KEYC
- ➤ Anglers must remove fish houses by deadlines to avoid penalties. South inland waters had a 11:59 p.m. Monday deadline while north inland waters have 11:59 p.m. March 16; border waters are due by March 5, March 31 and Sunday, and Iowa border waters’ deadline passed Feb. 20. Mankato Free Press
