  • Greater Mankato Area United Way launches its 2026 Tour of Giving series Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Shared Spaces (127 S. Second St), featuring local partner agency speakers, a free lunch and subsequent tours of Theresa House and Welcome Inn; registration is required.  Mankato Free Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • CenterPoint Energy said its new green hydrogen facility off North Riverfront Drive in Mankato will use 2 gallons per minute of water (about 1 million gallons a year, roughly equal to 10 homes’ annual use) and return half the water for treatment to ensure safe operations.  Mankato Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local writer Nell Musolf in Mankato explains that classism underpins many other isms and affects everyday exchanges. She calls for greater awareness and respect in daily interactions + a community-wide effort to value equality.  Mankato Free Press
  • Minnesota State University's Memorial Library now features an updated educational display of the Abraham Lincoln statue, which was moved from Centennial Student Union after pranks and controversy — the improved setup is open on the second floor for all visitors.  Mankato Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • American Legion National Commander Dan K. Wiley will speak on April 23 at New Prague Post 45 (300 S. Lexington Ave) to discuss issues important to local veterans; his program includes a 5 p.m. social hour, 6 p.m. dinner, and a presentation.  Mankato Free Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ferris State won 2-1 in overtime against Minnesota State in game two of the CCHA Mason Cup quarterfinals, forcing a decisive game three on Sunday evening. The Bulldogs set the stage for a competitive series in this local matchup.  KEYC
  • The Mankato East boys basketball team won (85-45) in its Section 2AAA semifinal against New Ulm and will face St. Peter (at Gustavus) this Thursday for the title game.  KEYC
  • Gustavus men’s basketball won the Division III regional final in St. Peter after rallying from a halftime deficit with a 90-72 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor, and the team will face the University of Chicago next in the NCAA Tournament.  KEYC
