COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Anderson Truck Farm, a 100-year local staple, is not at the market this year after the board rejected its application due to market saturation. The farm will continue its roadside setups and is searching for a new permanent home.  KEYC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • North Mankato residents are feeling the impact of rising gas prices, as quoted by Darwin Ganzel and others at local stations on Thursday — with prices near $3.59 and AAA data showing higher averages in Blue Earth County compared to nearby areas; consumers are checking for the best prices online.  Mankato Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mankato West High School is undergoing a $105 million renovation that started last summer (the first major facelift in 60 years), adding a secure entrance, updated gym, and expanded art and music spaces. Major construction will wrap this summer, while classroom upgrades will begin in fall.  Mankato Free Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Minneopa State Park’s bison road is closed to vehicles due to wet conditions from unseasonably warm weather earlier this month; visitors may still view the grazing bison from a nearby foot trail (bison calves are expected in early May).  Mankato Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Minnesota Nurses Association met with legislators this March to outline nurse priorities for 2026, preserving earned sick time and paid family leave + setting safe ratios between nurses and patients while opposing the interstate nurse licensure compact to keep care standards high.  KEYC
  • Mapleton officials announced that a section of Blue Earth County Road 4 between 592nd and 594th Avenues will close for several weeks starting Monday for a bridge replacement project — motorists must use alternate routes during the closure.  Mankato Free Press
  • The City Council awarded $15,800 in grants this week to local groups — MY Place received $4,000 for extended summer programming and Carnegie Art Center got $3,000 for a new listening series. Other winners include Key City Bike, Zero Waste and Centenary United Methodist Church.  Mankato Free Press

  • LCWM girls basketball star Clara Jeddeloh had a standout senior season (her final season with the Knights) and earned recognition as Prep Athlete of the Week.  KEYC
  • MSU women's basketball is preparing for the NCAA Tournament Central Regional while the men's hockey team aims to advance in the conference playoffs and track and field athletes gear up for nationals. The Maverick Insider report brings local postseason action to our community.  KEYC
