- ➤ The latest FreepCast episode featured 100-year-old WWII veteran Dennis Boldt — who fought in the Battle of the Bulge and Normandy — as he talked about local issues including the Mankato East boys basketball team reaching the state tournament. The episode also said that residents have halted plans for a gravel pit near Red Jacket Valley County Park due to worries about the environment. Mankato Free Press
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ BENCO Electric Cooperative said on its Facebook page Friday evening that more than 1,000 customers lost power in two outages that affected the Jamestown substation and areas in Blue Earth, Elmore, Emerald and Rome townships. Crews restored power in the Jamestown area by about 9 p.m.—approximately 650 Eagle Lake customers remain without electricity and efforts to restore power are in progress. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Bret Michaels, Stephen Pearcy, Ratt, and Great White are set to perform at the fourth Bend of the River Festival at the Vetter Stone Amphitheater on Sept. 13—tickets cost from $59.80 to $132.60. Organized by Jerry Braam, the event will feature a shift from country to classic rock. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ Area communities are hosting St. Patrick’s Day festivities with parades scheduled on different days; New Ulm will hold its traditional parade at 5 p.m. Monday while Le Center will feature a 2 p.m. Saturday parade followed by music, and Waseca and St. Peter are set to celebrate with events into the evening. - ➤ The Saint Peter School Board has selected three finalists for the superintendent position (Dr. Khuzana DeVaan, Dr. Daniel Edwards, and Dr. Jonathon Graff) after reviewing public survey feedback. Interviews for the finalists begin at 3:30 pm Thursday, March 20, 2025 at St. Peter High School Media Center (2121 Broadway Avenue) and are open to the public. KEYC

- ➤ Starting 7 a.m. on Monday, the eastbound lanes of East Main Street between North Riverfront Drive and North Second Street will be closed for demolition work—westbound lanes will remain open—and the lanes are expected to reopen on March 31. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ After winning last season's national title, Minnesota State's women’s basketball team will face Missouri Western in the opening round of the NCAA tournament (this game will test their title defense) (scheduling details are pending). KEYC
