- ➤ Mount Kato, a skiing, tubing and snowboarding facility, got 10 extra inches of snow on March 15 that boosted visits from Minnesota and out-of-state guests. Staff said the fresh snow will boost the Spring Fling on March 21 — with gnome hunting, pond skimming and an Easter egg hunt. KEYC
- ➤ Mankato resident Colette Miller, a devoted American Red Cross volunteer with 482 hours since April 2024, is recognized during Red Cross Month for her readiness to assist in disasters, volunteer recruitment, and community safety inspections (including distributing food after an apartment fire). - ➤ Pastor Amy Jo Bur at Centenary United Methodist Church supports the Social Justice Theatre production 'Church & State' that tackles guns and religion. The play opens tomorrow and will be followed by a community talkback session (with proceeds benefiting Protect Minnesota). Mankato Free Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Eric Dozois from the Mayo Clinic said colorectal cancer cases are rising among younger Minnesotans, with 10% of cases affecting those under 50, so he urges adults 45 to 75 to seek screening as early detection can improve treatment outcomes (as noted by the Minnesota Department of Health). Free Oral Cancer Screenings in Mankato & Rochester
In honor of Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, Southeastern Minnesota Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery will offer free oral cancer screenings on April 16 from 2 pm to 4 pm at: 2519 Commerce Drive NW, Suite 110, Rochester, Minn., 55901; and 1410 Madison Avenue, Mankato, Minn., 56001. To participate, arrive at one of the clinics during the designated times and ask for a free cancer screening.
