- ➤ Mankato Con is a tabletop board game event supporting MVAC. Organized by The Dork Den (its longtime partner) and MVAC, the weekend-long convention runs through Sunday at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center and unites hundreds of games with thousands of local players. KEYC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ MSU hosts a pilot Engineering Machine Design Contest where local teams build small Rube Goldberg machines in just weeks to compete for new awards. Worthington Christian School tested the format, which aims to reduce time commitment while boosting local participation. Mankato Free Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Mankato is updating traffic controls amid nearby construction. City officials installed a temporary four-way stop at Belgrade Avenue and Sherman Street and are adding permanent stop signs at Garfield Avenue and Sherman Street + officials will monitor the changes for safety. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ New Richland officials are monitoring flood risk as a foot of snow coupled with 70-degree temperatures accelerated melt and raised flood warnings. A hydrology study concluded last fall and city leaders are partnering with the county on a management plan (expected to take four to five years to implement). Mankato Free Press
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ MSU men’s hockey beat St. Thomas 4-1 for the Mason Cup title Friday night as Tristan Lemyre, Evan Murr, Luigi Benincasa, and Jack Smith scored to give the Mavericks their second consecutive win; they will head to the NCAA Tournament next week. KEYC
- ➤ Maverick’s Sports Grill in Mankato saw its customers triple on March 20 during March Madness and the CCHA Championship as all 90 seats were booked; the bar also featured a live performance by the Mav Machine band (fans wore MSU gold to cheer on the home team). KEYC

Free Oral Cancer Screenings in Mankato & Rochester
In honor of Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, Southeastern Minnesota Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery will offer free oral cancer screenings on April 16 from 2 pm to 4 pm at: 2519 Commerce Drive NW, Suite 110, Rochester, Minn., 55901; and 1410 Madison Avenue, Mankato, Minn., 56001. To participate, arrive at one of the clinics during the designated times and ask for a free cancer screening.
