- ➤ Connections Shelter is expanding its night shelter to year-round service to help those experiencing homelessness in Mankato. The shelter is running a $200K fundraising campaign (with matching donations available) to support the service. KEYC
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Jack Links confirmed on Saturday, Mar. 21 that its Mankato branch is eliminating its third shift for cost and operational reasons, resulting in over 30 job terminations (with support and severance options provided). KEYC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Myron Medcalf, former Reporter editor and Star Tribune columnist, will headline the student newspaper's 100th anniversary celebration today at Memorial Library from 7 to 8:30 p.m. — the event features an alumni reception from 4 to 5 p.m. and optional campus activities. Mankato Free Press
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Mankato is inviting community members to submit designs for new light pole art along Belgrade Avenue—hand-drawn, digital, or written—until May 25 as part of the Belgrade Avenue Reconstruction project, with installation planned for late 2026 following construction beginning in April and wrapping in August. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ MNSU will host its annual Health Summit tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Centennial Student Union. Carrie Manning and Michelle and DeAnne Sherman will lead keynote sessions on rural youth mental health, followed by Q&A, case-study simulations and poster presentations (public registration costs $30). Free Oral Cancer Screenings in Mankato & Rochester
In honor of Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, Southeastern Minnesota Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery will offer free oral cancer screenings on April 16 from 2 pm to 4 pm at: 2519 Commerce Drive NW, Suite 110, Rochester, Minn., 55901; and 1410 Madison Avenue, Mankato, Minn., 56001. To participate, arrive at one of the clinics during the designated times and ask for a free cancer screening.
