Good morning, Mankato. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 31st of March.

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Farmers and pork producers in southern Minnesota worry that new tariffs could hurt export markets and raise costs for fertilizers and fuel, reducing the gains seen last year. The local Farmers Union (which held a town hall in Sleepy Eye) said the growing uncertainty forces producers to wait and see how tariff talks evolve.  Mankato Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MnDOT will hold two open houses for the biggest highway projects in south-central this summer that will detour high-volume highways for the entire construction season. The Highway 60 event is Tuesday at Lake Crystal City Hall — available from 4 to 6 p.m. — and the Highway 22 meeting is Monday, April 7 at Kasota Community Center — with a formal presentation at 5:30 p.m.  Mankato Free Press
  • Starting April 11, highway reconstruction on Hwy 22 between Mankato and St. Peter will detour nearly 12,000 daily vehicles—routes will shift to Hwy 169 until the work pauses for winter in October or November.
