- ➤ Andy Linder of Linder Family Farms is optimistic about Minnesota oats as a new oat mill in Albert Lea will create a food grade market this growing season despite an 8 percent decline in overall acreage. KEYC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Mankato Area Public School District board will hold a public hearing on the proposed auto-renewal of its 2017 operating referendum at an upcoming meeting. The district says this one-time renewal — allowed under state law — preserves current tax levels and avoids costly election expenses. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ GreenSeam announced Monday, Apr. 6 that Tim Huebsch is serving as interim leader while the board searches for a permanent director. Huebsch, with nearly 25 years of leadership experience from General Mills, began his role on April 1. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ On Monday, April 6, MSU baseball beat Bemidji State 14-2 in the first game of a doubleheader in Mankato. Louis Magers struck out seven in five innings while allowing two earned runs. KEYC
- ➤ The Minnesota State softball team sits in second place in the NSIC under new head coach Kristle Wolcott after posting a 23-13 record, and the Mavericks will face No. 22 Winona State on Wednesday. KEYC

Free Oral Cancer Screenings in Mankato & Rochester
In honor of Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, Southeastern Minnesota Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery will offer free oral cancer screenings on April 16 from 2 pm to 4 pm at: 2519 Commerce Drive NW, Suite 110, Rochester, Minn., 55901; and 1410 Madison Avenue, Mankato, Minn., 56001. To participate, arrive at one of the clinics during the designated times and ask for a free cancer screening.
