  • An all-ages benefit concert is set for Saturday, 4-9 p.m. at Mankato Makerspace — 1700 3rd Ave — to support nonprofit COPAL, which aids local Latino families with immigration services, featuring five musical acts, a buffet by Food Not Bombs, live screen printing and a silent auction with a $15 suggested donation.  Mankato Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership will host Let the Pipes Sing at Good Counsel chapel on Saturday afternoon, featuring a fundraiser for preserving the 150-year-old organ. The performance includes live brass from the Mankato Symphony Orchestra plus an open bench for visitors to explore its sound.  Mankato Free Press
  • Yesterday, the Dr. Michael Fagin Pan African Conference and Festival marked its 50th anniversary at MSU Mankato with panels, a community march, and an awards banquet honoring its founder.  KEYC

SPORTS NEWS

  • MSU track and field hosted the Stomper Open on Wednesday, Apr. 8 — posting strong marks at the competition and preparing for Saturday's Minnesota State Open at home.  KEYC
  • The Minnesota State softball team upset No. 23 Winona State on Wednesday by a score of 6 to 2 in the first game of a doubleheader. The Mavericks sit one game behind the Warriors in the NSIC standings and will face Augustana on Saturday.  KEYC

  • Free Oral Cancer Screenings in Mankato & Rochester

    In honor of Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, Southeastern Minnesota Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery will offer free oral cancer screenings on April 16 from 2 pm to 4 pm at: 2519 Commerce Drive NW, Suite 110, Rochester, Minn., 55901; and 1410 Madison Avenue, Mankato, Minn., 56001. To participate, arrive at one of the clinics during the designated times and ask for a free cancer screening.
