ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 50-year-old Mankato woman was injured in an SUV-pickup crash when her vehicle (a northbound 2023 Hyundai Tucson) collided with another (a 2015 Ram 5500) at the intersection of Highway 22 and Victory Drive on Wednesday morning, and she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Mayo Clinic Health System while the other driver and passengers went unharmed. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students at MSU Mankato protested on campus Wednesday after one student was detained by ICE and five international students had their visas revoked. University officials said they were not notified in advance and have set a policy to limit ICE access to non-public spaces—organizers urged more support from the school and peers. KEYC
- ➤ South Central College Foundation pledged a matching gift of $250,000 for a new dental clinic and lab space at the North Mankato campus, offering donors the chance to double their contributions up to that amount. The college will begin planning the expansion of its dental assisting program once full funding is received — an upgrade that aims to help reduce the long waiting list for the program. KEYC
- ➤ The Nicollet Public Schools Board said yesterday that a $195,627 special education deficit will be insured after a coding error by School Management Services—its president Todd Netzke explained the mistake during a meeting. The board also noted a $1.2 million shortfall over three years because of lower enrollment and will soon survey the community about a bond referendum. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ North Mankato got a 3.3 million dollar grant from the state for enhancements to the Highway 169 corridor project — the funds will pay for a new roundabout at the intersection of Highway 169 and Webster Avenue and for a bike and pedestrian underpass from Range Street to North River Drive. Reconstruction will begin in 2027 and be completed in 2028. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership hosted interested groups at Good Counsel Hill on Tuesday to showcase plans for housing nonprofits and commercial tenants. They bought the century-old property from the School Sisters of Notre Dame in February and will officially take over with renovations beginning this fall (no new tenants have been confirmed yet).
