Good morning, Mankato.

The Mankato Makers Space and Sergio Salgado hosted Amigos Unidos—a benefit concert that raised funds for COPAL with music, artist workshops, a silent auction, and a potluck, all organized by local community groups.

Fundraising for this year's Day of the Dead festival in Mankato began using leftover funds from last year even after missing expected grant money.

The event will be held on Halloween — the first time this change happens — and will celebrate the local Latino heritage.

The first calf of the year was born Saturday at Minneopa State Park and brought the herd to 20 bison — the natural calving season will continue through early May.

Visitors can observe the bison from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Tuesday while staying safely in their vehicles.

Mankato East baseball lost 9-8 to Rochester Mayo in its home opener on Tuesday and will face Rochester Century on Thursday.

The close game sets the stage for a rematch as the team prepares to rebound.

Tuesday evening, West baseball beat Century 8-5 and the team will host Rochester John-Marshall on Thursday at ISG Field.
