- ➤ In 1949, to replace a burned-down elevator, workers carefully rolled a 40-ton, 65-foot grain elevator across the Rapidan Dam and up a steep hill in Rapidan — a feat watched by nearly 2,000 onlookers. The elevator reached its new home on August 4th, and engineers plan to remove the dam in 2027. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Terrance Willie Terrell Boyd, 30, of Mankato was charged on Friday with felonies for first-degree drug sales, second-degree drug possession and fifth-degree drug possession after North Mankato police searched a residence on April 9—finding 3 grams of cocaine and 31.4 grams of meth in a room. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ The Carnegie Art Center hosted an exhibition of art by the Leo family — including Brian, Judith, and Colin — following an opening reception on April 4; the show ran until Saturday. It showcased local talent and highlighted the evolving art scene in Mankato. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Today, soybean farmer Darin Johnson saw China's tariffs hurt his crop and drop local soybean prices on his farm by I-90 in southern Minnesota. The tariffs lowered prices and may force farmers to plant fewer beans if trade talks do not improve soon — a sign of growing tension in the farm economy. Mankato Free Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ South Central College today announced it has added three Transfer Pathway programs—Accounting, English, and History—to offer a total of ten options that let students start at the two-year school and then transfer to a bachelor’s program in the Minnesota State system. More than 200 students completed transfer degrees last year, and the college plans to give more students a flexible start to higher education. KEYC

- ➤ Today, left-hand turns at Highway 169’s intersection with South Washington Avenue are not allowed for northbound Highway 169 or for traffic on South Washington wishing to turn onto northbound Highway 169. Officials said the change comes after 13 crashes in the past 10 years—three of which resulted in five fatalities. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Mankato East remained perfect at 4–0 after defeating Owatonna 9–3 on Tuesday — pitcher Kylinn Stangl struck out 14 hitters and passed 500 career strikeouts. KEYC
- ➤ At WEM High School, 25 girls registered for a flag football program sponsored by the Vikings that began as a pilot last spring; their first practice was on April 6. The team will play on Sundays with a game in Fairmont on April 27 — home games will start on May 4— as sectionals and a state tournament are scheduled for June 1 and 9. Mankato Free Press
