COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mankato's Project Community Connect returns Tuesday, Apr. 21 (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.) at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center downtown as 90 organizations offer free haircuts, affordable shoes and resource information while the city provides free bus service.  KEYC
  • Apollo, the longest-resident shelter dog at BENCHS, celebrated his one-year anniversary by getting a surprise swimming lesson (his first time in water at age 8) last Wednesday when The Paw opened its pool as an in-kind donation.  KEYC
  • At Mankato’s YMCA, a man collapsed in late January and received CPR from Y member Warren Peterson, staffer Katie Murphy and two firefighters. Monday’s awards ceremony honored their lifesaving teamwork — a clear display of local heroism.  Mankato Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Minnesota professor Eric Schwartz will deliver the Kessel Memorial Lecture on ‘Moral Leadership and Integrity in a Period of Ethical Decline’ at 7 p.m. Monday in Ostrander Auditorium at Centennial Student Union — the session will include a Q&A and a reception afterwards.  Mankato Free Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mankato West baseball beat Rochester John-Marshall 5-4 Thursday night and will face Rochester Mayo on Saturday at an away game.  KEYC
  • Visit Mankato is unveiling new faster—flatter routes for the 2026 Mankato Marathon after months of work with a volunteer task force and city partners. The course features a new start at MSU and a downtown finish with shuttle buses set for Saturday morning.  KEYC
  • The Minnesota State baseball team beat Augustana on Thursday, winning 4 to 1 in the final game of a three game series at home in Mankato. Their record improved to 28 to 8 and they will face Minnesota Crookston on Saturday.  KEYC
  • Mankato East lost to Rochester Century last Thursday in extra innings by a 4-2 score. The Cougars will host Jackson County Central today.  KEYC
  • Minnesota State will host its annual spring game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Mankato (featuring Purple vs. Gold with Pigskin BBQ to follow), marking a key moment in the team's spring season.  KEYC
