ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 11:05 a.m. Thursday, New Ulm and Lafayette firefighters controlled a heavy fire that damaged a house at 58608 County Road 21 in Lafayette Township—no one was injured and the cause remains undetermined.  Mankato Free Press
  • Two St. Peter residents were injured in a crash on Highway 169 near the south edge of St. Peter on April 17 when a 2019 Dodge Challenger lost control and collided with a 2016 Jeep Cherokee—both received treatment at Rivers Edge Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  Mankato Free Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Eagle Lake man William Kyle Roberts, 34, was sentenced to 180 days on work release for four gross misdemeanor charges after being convicted of secretly filming women at Motel 6 on Premier Drive in 2021 and 2022 — hotel security footage showed him entering rooms before guests arrived.  Mankato Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • MSU Mankato hosted a traveling planetarium on Friday that taught kids and adults about indigenous views of the night sky. Organized by the American Indigenous Studies program for Earth Month, the event showcased local interpretations of stars — a perspective that connects cultural history with science.  KEYC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An international student at Minnesota State University filed a lawsuit on Friday alleging that federal agents arrested him unlawfully on March 28 due to his outspoken support for Palestinian rights with respect to Gaza+ a federal judge ordered his release on $7,500 bond on April 9, but DHS immediately imposed a stay that has kept him in detention since then.  Mankato Free Press

  • At VINE's community center in Mankato, 18 participants benefited from the third week of healthy eating tips delivered by MSU dietetic students who served a noon meal of sesame garlic salmon, roasted Brussels sprouts, and roasted fingerling potatoes—capping the session with a maple oatmeal raisin cookie—designed to highlight the benefits of a Mediterranean diet.  Mankato Free Press
