  • A 21-year-old Lake Crystal man died when his 2011 Chevrolet Silverado rolled over north of Good Thunder early Sunday—Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office confirmed he was the only occupant and that deputies responded at 12:36 a.m. on 552nd Avenue.  Mankato Free Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Seoul Foods, a four-month-old Asian import grocery store in North Mankato owned by Yella Hensley and his wife Sook, is facing rising costs as tariffs on international goods force suppliers to hike prices. The owners reported that one supplier has already raised its prices by 20% and warn that more increases may soon affect local customers — adding pressure on the business.  KEYC

CRIME NEWS

  • 23-year-old Lul Gatbel Lul was charged with felony first-degree assault in Blue Earth County District Court after he stabbed a woman on Sunday at 12:23 p.m. on Eastport Drive in Mankato—police say a warrant is out for his arrest.  Mankato Free Press
  • Lojock Dech Jiokthiang, 28, of Mankato, was convicted in Nicollet County District Court on a felony first-degree conspiracy to sell drugs charge after police found hundreds of fentanyl pills in his vehicle, with a dismissed drug sales charge— he will serve 87 days in jail while a four-year, three-month prison sentence is stayed as he begins five years of supervised probation and 80 hours in community service.  Mankato Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A high school game called Senior Assassins sparked a 911 call last spring when a Mankato resident saw a student with a water gun and mistook him for a real threat—school officials and police now warn parents about the risks of playing on private property. The game, which offers a cash prize, is underway at one school while the contest at the other begins on April 28.  Mankato Free Press
  • A 20-year-old international student from Bangladesh was detained by ICE in March after his F-1 status was revoked—which his lawsuit claims was retaliation for his support of Palestinian human rights. Minnesota State University Mankato had also terminated the status of four other students without notice—raising questions about the administration of student immigration policies.  FOX 9
  • Federal authorities canceled the visa status of 12 international students at Minnesota State University—Mankato between March 28 and Monday, more than double the five initially reported and putting them at risk of deportation. Both Minnesota State University—Mankato and the University of Minnesota will monitor student records and alert affected students with legal assistance.  FOX 9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Blue Earth County's Human Services Department has proposed a voluntary furlough program for workers, allowing them up to 15 unpaid days off this year while keeping their benefits and job status. The plan—which limits furloughs to three days per week and requires supervisor approval—is being reviewed by the County Board today to help cut costs without disrupting core services.  Mankato Free Press
