- ➤ A 24-year-old man (Mohamed Adam Mohamed) from St. Peter was arrested by Mankato police after he entered a local store wearing heavy winter gear and looking at expensive items, and court documents show he may have been planning a mass casualty event while facing charges of felony theft and threats of violence. - ➤ Mankato police say a St. Peter man, Mohamed Adan Mohamed, 24, was arrested on felony theft and threat charges after stealing ammunition magazines and tactical gear from a local business on April 17 just before 3 p.m. — authorities say he may have planned to use the items in an attack. - ➤ Herb Kroon facilitated Tuesday’s Speech & Debate Banquet at Pioneer Bank in Mankato as students from Mankato West, East and Loyola received certificates, scholarships and plaques from the Greater Mankato Rotary Club—Kroon, a 1971 graduate who earned the award in 1970, shared a personal message of encouragement to the honorees. - ➤ Gustavus Adolphus College opened its new 1.1 megawatt solar array Tuesday to celebrate Earth Day, a project that will supply about 10% of campus power when fully operational. College leaders said the project is part of a plan to boost campus renewables — a move aimed at sustainability. KEYC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ County officials used explosions on February 5 to demolish the County Road 9 bridge next to the Rapidan Dam—crews then began cleaning up debris from the Blue Earth River. Officials said that removal of the dam will not be finished until 2028—new bridge construction will start next year. KEYC
- ➤ Mohammed Hoque, a 20-year-old international student at Minnesota State University, has remained in detention since his March arrest by federal immigration agents in Mankato despite a court order to release him on April 9—supporters have submitted over 500 letters urging his release as his attorneys argue his detention is retaliation for his support of Palestinian human rights.
