CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 24-year-old man from St. Peter—Mohamed Adan Mohamed—was arrested in Mankato on April 17 when police seized firearms from his home after filing an extreme risk protection order following his social media posts that suggested plans for a mass casualty event; his first court appearance is set for May 1 as he faces charges of theft and threats of violence. - ➤ MSU social work professor Melissa McCollister partnered graduate social work students and undergraduate art students to launch Art as Resistance—a Social Justice Gallery Exhibition—at Centennial Student Union gallery that uses art to tackle issues like racism and accessibility. - ➤ Work is underway on an Amazon distribution center in North Mankato's north industrial district—designed as a last mile hub for local deliveries. It will open in December and add 75 jobs, joining a cluster that already includes the Walmart Distribution Center and Gordini. KEYC

- ➤ Today, officials at Mankato Regional Airport will host an open house from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. to show preliminary designs and plans for a new air traffic control tower—intended to ease safety concerns amid growing business, personal, and flight training traffic; city officials said that if funding is finalized, construction could begin early 2026 with the FAA covering most of the costs. - ➤ A section of Victory Drive—Blue Earth County Road 82—will temporarily close between Marwood Drive and Extension Street starting May 5 for a reconstruction project that includes storm sewer, pavement, and signal upgrades. The Main Street/Victory Drive intersection will also remain closed until the project ends in late August, with traffic detoured via Hoffman Road, Highway 22, and Madison Avenue. Mankato Free Press
