- ➤ Mankato East High School special education students will celebrate a Starry Night Adaptive Prom on May 16 at the Morson Ario Strand VFW ballroom; local families and businesses raised funds to include music + karaoke, games, and prizes while ensuring caregivers can join for an inclusive experience. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A barn from a Jennie-O turkey operation became a total loss around 9:00 a.m. Wednesday after a nearby skid loader caught fire near Mapleton — Mapleton Fire requested help from area departments, and no workers were injured. KEYC

- ➤ A&W (in River Hills Mall) has closed for economic reasons, as announced on Facebook where the restaurant thanked customers for their support. KEYC
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Gerald (Jerry) Hackett, age 86 and a retired steel worker, has spent three years building scale models of historic courthouses and is now working on the Le Sueur County Government Center. He expects the project to be finished in three months and will donate it for display. KEYC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Pioneer Bank—part of its Bright Project—donated over 100 books to 52 classroom libraries across Mankato, North Mankato, St. Peter, Mapleton, Madelia, St. James and Lake Crystal earlier this month for Financial Literacy Month. Bank employees read with second graders to help spark an early understanding of money management. Mankato Free Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Community partners gathered yesterday at Mankato Youth Place to cut the ribbon on MY Place's new Mental Health Program, which will offer free services to 95 children. Contributions from local groups provided $100,000 to hire specialist Belle Koser, who brings four years of social work experience + works with local schools to improve care. KEYC
