- ➤ Tomorrow, the Minnesota Original Music Festival begins in spirit with Songwriters in the Round at the Arts Center of St. Peter (featuring Minneapolis musician Jim Walsh and hosted by Joe Tougas). The festival continues with a Hip-hop Showcase on June 27 and main events from July 16-19 at local venues. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ The Southern Minnesota School of Music, facing a failed April fundraiser and prior funding losses, will close by the first week of June; its interim director said new leadership and legal counsel are being sought to manage the shutdown+ 50 years of community service and support for 220 students. - ➤ Greater Mankato Area United Way & the Olseth Family Foundation celebrated 10 years of the 4th-Grade Book Project on May 4 at Sky One Eleven Event Space; the program gives local fourth graders free copies of Shel Silverstein’s Where the Sidewalk Ends to spark a love of reading. KEYC

- ➤ Bethany Lutheran College has extended its leases for ISG Field and Thomas Park through 2028 so its baseball and softball teams can keep playing on city fields. City Council approved revised monthly and game fees + ensuring a strong partnership between the college and the city. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ The Mankato East Cougars lost an 8-5 Big 9 contest to the Rochester Century Panthers on Tuesday and will face their crosstown rival Scarlets on Thursday. KEYC
- ➤ The Mankato West softball team won 10-0 over Rochester John-Marshall Tuesday in a decisive game and will face Mankato East Thursday. KEYC
