- ➤ Greater Mankato Rotary will honor four community members with its 20th annual Service Above Self award on Wednesday, May 13. The recipients include Trisha Anderson from Partners for Housing, Jim and Jennie Ward from VINE renovations, Robert Fitterer, and the Blue Earth County Historical Society. KEYC
- ➤ Kiwanis Camp Patterson in Madison Lake marks its 100th season before a $2 million renovation begins after the Aug. 21 camping event. APX Construction will start demolition to add showers (unisex), a counselor bunkhouse and covered space, with work ending by next spring before camps resume in 2027. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ North Mankato firefighters will receive a $10,000 grant from Proper No. Twelve to buy high-pressure extrication air lift bags for emergency calls. A check presentation is set for later this afternoon. KEYC

- ➤ A new YoYo Chicken restaurant is coming soon in North Mankato at the former Curiosi-Tea site on Commerce Drive. It will join other chicken spots opening near River Hills Mall while details on its opening date remain pending. KEYC

- ➤ Twin Rivers Council for the Arts invites community members to see artist Kyle Rose as part of the Creative Connections series on Tuesday, May 12 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Fairfield Inn & Suites in Mankato, an initiative that partners local businesses with artists to bring art into everyday spaces. - ➤ MSU Mankato is holding commencement ceremonies all weekend where graduates will receive their diplomas and step toward new careers. Some students, including international attendees and those starting graduate programs or new jobs, voiced excitement for the future as they mark a major milestone. KEYC
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, Mankato West baseball beat Mankato East 6-1 in their second meeting across town, and the Scarlets showed a strong rebound — a boost ahead for the season. KEYC
- ➤ The Mankato East softball team beat their crosstown rival, Mankato West, 18-4 on Thursday in a competitive game that drew local fans. KEYC
- ➤ Mankato boys lacrosse hosted Rochester on Thursday and fell 12-6 after a close first quarter gave way to a strong surge from the visitors. KEYC
- ➤ MSU track and field teams are headed to the NSIC championships this weekend for a final tune-up before nationals. Student athletes shared their preparations on Maverick Insider + coaches are confident in the team’s readiness. KEYC
