- ➤ Community members and nonprofits met with state officials Monday to discuss a proposal to cut SNAP benefits by 25 percent, which would force Minnesota to cover an extra $220 million in costs. - ➤ The state fire marshal ruled out foul play in an early morning house fire in Sleepy Eye that destroyed a home and injured 29-year-old Katie Rehbein with extensive burns and smoke inhalation while her 3-year-old son remained in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center—other family members were treated and released. - ➤ City Manager Susan Arntz received a strong review on May 5 from the council and a 3% raise that set her base salary at $218,000—her overall pay now nears $229,000 with additional benefits. - ➤ Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato has introduced advanced heart procedures such as laser atherectomy, drug-coated balloons, and ECMO that help treat blockages and heart attacks.
