  • Rotary of Greater Mankato honored three community members—Jenn Faust, Jane Dow, and Jed Falgren—for their volunteer work and recognized LEEP for helping people with disabilities at its annual Service Above Self luncheon held Wednesday at The Venue.  Mankato Free Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residential customers are asked to postpone dropping off waste at Ponderosa Landfill until Monday after a fire broke out at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday in the active cell at 20028 Gooseberry Lane — no structures were affected and the facility is operating normal hours today.  Mankato Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mankato City Manager Susan Arntz said at Monday’s council meeting that a proposed 3.1% cut to government aid will cost the city $263,880—equaling loss of salaries for public works, airport, and emergency services—and result in a 1.1% tax increase as lawmakers work to finalize budget bills by May 19.  Mankato Free Press
