ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • FedEx driver William Uber rescued Ann Garlinghouse, her mother Darlene Cervantes, and her daughter Susanne after their car rolled over on Highway 169 near Highway 68 on Wednesday morning when a black pick-up ran them off the road — only Ann needed hospital care for a cut on her neck.  Mankato Free Press

  • Dairy Queen West has been a local staple since 1973 and now the Galli family, after 35 years, has sold it to husband and wife team Chris Kunst & Chantal Heetland, who will continue its traditions even as JoRae Galli Storm works her last shift on Thursday, May 21.  MankatoLIFE

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Historic R.D. Hubbard House reopens for the season on Friday, May 22 at 10 a.m. at 606 Broad Street in Mankato — a special Nooks and Crannies Tour is set for Thursday, May 21 at 6 p.m. to showcase its Victorian charm and restoration history.  MankatoLIFE
  • CityArt Mankato will install 26 new sculptures on downtown pedestals Saturday, May 16 as part of its 2026-27 art tour following over $100,000 in donations. The display will feature works by local students and artists from across the country and run from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.  KEYC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today, Standard and Poor's renewed Mankato's AA rating ahead of a $14.5 million bond sale to fund street construction projects. City officials say improvements could boost the rating to AA+ in two years.  Mankato Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The United South Central School District revised its bonding referendum to $23 million for new classrooms and activity spaces after community feedback raised cost concerns — the board will vote Tuesday, May 19 on sending the proposal to the Minnesota Department of Education to support rising enrollment from 745 to 800 students over five years.  KEYC
  • The Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota received a transformational $4 million gift to expand its interactive exhibits and programs. The expansion will add new indoor and outdoor spaces — designed to help children and families learn through play.  MankatoLIFE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews will replace a culvert on Lime Valley Road between North Riverfront Drive and Industrial Road starting Monday, May 18; work is expected to last 4 weeks depending on weather conditions.  KEYC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Bookin on Belgrade 5K will take place this Saturday at 9 a.m. from North Mankato Taylor Library with a new route turning at Cross Street (instead of Range Street) due to construction, and the library will host a plant swap meet during the event.  KEYC
