EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students from local high schools joined the annual Parade of Graduates on Monday, May 18, to revisit their elementary schools and reconnect with former teachers before graduation this week. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ North Mankato City Council unanimously approved a proposal by Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership to expand a community land trust that aims to create up to three affordable homes + support a July funding application. The city will offer $130,000 from its affordable housing trust fund if state funds are approved. Mankato Free Press
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Front Street Place’s $70M project to redevelop the vacant Walgreens block will create 51 jobs and over 150 new apartments while involving 21 months of construction disruption. The project (relying on a DEED grant and TIF support) will begin demolition in July, with building work starting in January 2027. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ The new Front Street Place project redevelops the shuttered Walgreens into a six-story mixed-use building with 165 apartments and 41 affordable units, retail space and offices moving 107 jobs from APX Construction + Tailwind Group.
