- ➤ Katelyn Young chose Minnesota State University for its lower tuition cost and abundant financial aid—she plans to pay about $4,000 a semester and graduate debt free by 2027. - ➤ Bravo Zulu House will host a ribbon cutting on May 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center in Mankato to open its new facility that helps veterans with substance abuse and PTSD, and 300 to 400 people are expected; a grand opening will follow on May 28 at 9 a.m. at 2949 230th St. in Winnebago—150 to 200 people are expected—and fundraising has reached $1.3 million while still needing funds for dog kennels and hydroponic farming. - ➤ The Mankato East baseball team defeated West 3—1 on May 22—clinching their second consecutive Big 9 conference title. KEYC
- ➤ On May 22, the East softball team won 10—0 in five innings against Albert Lea at north Mankato in the Section 2AAA tournament. They will play New Ulm at noon on Saturday. KEYC
- ➤ New Ulm defeated Mankato West 3—1 in the Section 2AAA tournament on May 22. New Ulm will play East on Saturday at noon while Mankato West takes on St. Peter at 10:00 a.m. from Caswell Park — setting up key matchups next in the tournament. KEYC
- ➤ Lori Meyer retired after more than 40 years coaching MSU softball, setting a Division II win record — her long career marked an era of success. Wolcott will take over as head coach and lead the team moving forward. KEYC
- ➤ Loyola baseball beat GFW 6-3 on May 22 in the first round of the Section 2A tournament. The team will face New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. in the second round. KEYC
