On Saturday afternoon, children played at Fallenstein Playground and the city's splash pad in upper North Mankato as sunny skies and low 70s weather drew families and filled West Howard Drive with parked cars—kids splashed and jumped in puddles for fun.

American Legion Post 518 will fly a flag in June to honor Army Sgt. 1st Class Edward Norbert Hammerschmidt—members will gather at 10 a.m. June 7 at Wheeler Park in lower North Mankato to begin the monthlong tribute.
