Local community groups and American Legion posts gathered at cemeteries on Memorial Day to honor fallen servicemembers from conflicts past and present—scouts marched with the flag to learn about sacrifice—uniting residents in remembrance.

A Memorial Day program held Monday in Vernon Center brought local residents to the cemetery to learn about its 150-year history and honor veterans including those who served in World War II.

Hilda Parks led the event and told attendees about the cemetery’s local family ties — including her own — and noted a new QR code sign that helps visitors locate graves.
