- ➤ Friends of the Boy in Blue Civil War Memorial will host an open house on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. near 811 S. Broad St. to mark the replica’s 10th anniversary and the Civil War’s 160th anniversary while serving cake and lemonade, and if the weather worsens the event will move to the VFW building. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Mankato woman, Tecorriea Ayler-Leak, 24, was charged with first-degree burglary, fourth-degree damage to property, unlawful force or violence, and assault after she broke into an apartment during an ongoing feud on May 23 (witnesses reported she kicked in the door, causing damage estimated at $120 and prompting a large group to storm the scene). - ➤ City officials and a consultant reviewed traffic and crash data in a Mankato hilltop neighborhood and found heavy cut-through traffic and high speeds on Marsh, Long, Dane and Dickinson streets. The Hilltop Planning Area Study will propose fixes such as mini-roundabouts, improved crosswalks and speed-monitoring signs—measures expected to be finalized by July—aimed at reducing crashes and improving pedestrian safety.
