- ➤ Shady Oaks Campground in Garden City is operating while the fair board repairs damage from last year’s high waters, including fixing a river road and unstable picnic tables—volunteers and professionals are working on electrical lines and a building hit by a falling tree to keep the campground ready for the fair from July 24-27. - ➤ Nidec Power launched a new interactive exhibit at the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota on Thursday that lets kids explore energy and motion with a crank-able power tower—where beach balls are launched by turning a crank—and wind-powered air cars. Local parents said the exhibit supports STEM education and provides a hands-on way for children to learn about everyday electrical and mechanical processes. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Parents in Lake Crystal and Mankato learned their children might face hearing loss from congenital cytomegalovirus after newborn blood tests and follow-up checks showed early signs of risk; Minnesota began universal screening in 2023 and has since found 387 cases in 56 counties. Early detection has led to prompt care and regular audiology checkups plus further treatments to help monitor and manage potential issues. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ The Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial softball team battled Jordan in the Section 2AA title game on Thursday and won in extra innings to earn a spot in the state tournament. KEYC
- ➤ USC softball earned a spot in its first state tournament after beating MCW for the Section 2A title. The Rebels lost game one 6-5 + won game two 6-0 on May 29 to secure the win. KEYC
- ➤ Mankato East's softball team advanced to the state tournament for the third consecutive year after defeating New Ulm in consecutive games on May 29 — winning ten to five in game one and thirteen to one in game two. They will begin playing in the Class AAA state tournament on Tuesday, June 3. KEYC
