CRIME NEWS

  • Mankato police are searching for 14-year-old runaway Jocelyn Rose Saarela, last seen near Stoltzman Road and Riverfront Drive—she is described as 5-foot-10, 110 pounds with blue eyes and long blond hair with red undertones and may be in the Minneapolis area.  Mankato Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • David and Lori Holmes are leaving the Mankato Playhouse for a job in Columbus — board member Matt Atwood will take over operations. A Chorus Line: Teen Edition plays today at Crossview Covenant Church on Howard Drive in North Mankato — the show will also run on June 14, 20, and 21 with tickets priced at $15 for adults and $13 for youth with a $2 fee at the door.  Mankato Free Press
  • At Carnegie Art Center today, four local artists are showing distinct works, including imaginative photography by James Taylor and his father Wes Taylor (both with deep local ties), contemporary paintings by Ben Liebl made from found objects, and pieces by Gregory T. Wilkins whose artist talk is set for 7 p.m. on June 20. A public reception is held from 5-7 p.m. for visitors to learn more about their work.  Mankato Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Peter Public Schools received a $99,999 grant from Minnesota Housing to team with Habitat for Humanity of South Central Minnesota—10 to 15 high school students will help build a new affordable home in Traverse Green Subdivision starting in the fall. The project aims to address local housing needs and build construction skills for students.  Mankato Free Press
  • Minnesota State University is hosting eight vocational students from Curacao for an international internship in business that runs from June 4 until Sunday, and today they will present digital storytelling projects on what they learned. The program has the students visiting local businesses to understand American small business practices — including stops at River Rock Coffee & Tea and other companies.  Mankato Free Press

  • Volunteers are needed for a free Styrofoam recycling event at Kato Moving and Storage, 417 Poplar St., on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—accepted items like clean packaging and foam coolers will be sent to Hutchinson for reuse, and anyone interested in a two-hour shift should contact Mankato Zero Waste.  Mankato Free Press
