GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At Monday night’s meeting, the Mankato City Council passed a 58‐page Climate Action Plan with 80 initiatives designed to reach carbon neutrality by 2050 and help the city adapt to more severe weather — the plan also calls for a citizen advisory committee to be formed by the end of 2026 to guide its evolving actions. - ➤ Mankato avoided a cut in local government aid when lawmakers kept state aid intact, but revenue promised from cannabis shop sales will now go to the state and may cause the city to adjust permit fees for its four allowed shops. City Manager Susan Arntz said the city gained an extra $5 million toward a sewage treatment plant renovation grant (a 71% boost) that should reduce future borrowing needs and lower utility bills.
