COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mapleton Economic Development Authority was awarded a $39,173 T-Mobile grant to build a new child-care building — a project designed to meet urgent community needs and adaptable for future housing use. Representatives from T-Mobile’s Hometown Grant program will present the check today at 10 a.m. at 209 S.E. Fourth Ave.  Mankato Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MSU Mankato is hosting a summer robotics camp for area high schoolers over the next two weeks in partnership with Nidec—students build robots and work on real-world engineering problems—to get hands-on STEM experience. Local educators and MSU STEM students lead the program to inspire future engineering careers.  KEYC
  • Minnesota State University will start two new degree programs in robotics and artificial intelligence this fall to meet industry demand. The robotics program, the only one in Minnesota, will take about 25 students and the AI master’s program already has 13 applications—part of the school’s plan to prepare local workers for high-tech jobs—while giving hands-on training.  Mankato Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MnDOT started safety improvements on Highway 169 at the intersection with County Road 13 in Garden City on Tuesday for the detour set up while Highway 60 is being reconstructed from Lake Crystal — the work covers traffic barrels, rumble strips, LED warning signs and a temporary 45 MPH speed limit enforced 24 hours a day for about one mile until the project is completed this fall.  KEYC
