  • The YWCA Mankato in partnership with APX Construction Group built a tiny home with 10 middle school girls in its Trade Trailblazer program and will raffle it off—raffle tickets cost $100 until 5 p.m. today—and the winner need only hook up plumbing and water to make it livable.  Mankato Free Press
  • It has been over a year since flooding swept away the historic Dam Store and a nearby home along the Blue Earth River, and the family now runs a larger store for its first full season. Co-owners David Hruska and Jenny Barnes remain hopeful to return to the dam site that was once their home.  KEYC

CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday night a week-old white goat with blue eyes was taken from Goofy Goat Farm in Madison Lake when a caretaker saw a white Chevy Trailblazer speeding away—owner Mark Bisch warned that the stolen kid may not survive without proper care.  Mankato Free Press
  • A Mankato man was charged with felony domestic assault after officers responded to a home on June 14 when the victim said the suspect grabbed her arm, threw her onto a bed and threatened her with a hammer—he has a history of domestic violence, including a strangulation incident—and is set to appear in court today.  Mankato Free Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A historic flood in 2024 forced the closure of Highway 169 between Mankato, St. Peter and Henderson, with Highway 99 Bridge in St. Peter and Highway 22 also shut due to rising waters along the Minnesota River. The river crested at 762.50 feet in St. Peter on June 26th, 2024 (the major flood stage) and at 741.79 feet in Henderson on June 25th, 2024 (breaking the previous record).  KEYC
