COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On July 8, the annual Thunder of Drums will take place at MSU’s Blakeslee Stadium beginning at 7 p.m.—a drum and bugle corps event sponsored by the Mankato Kiwanis Club that draws about 3,200 spectators and 700 performers. The performance will feature elaborate shows that tell dramatic stories with music and choreography, adding to a cherished local tradition.  Mankato Free Press

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 31-year-old St. Peter man, Hayden Taylor Simmons Adams, crashed his 2019 Nissan Sentra on Highway 22 at 3:38 p.m. Friday when he swerved to avoid hitting an animal — his car rolled into a ditch — and he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a St. Peter hospital.  Mankato Free Press
  • On Friday, June 27th—a 48-year-old Le Sueur woman named Christina Marie Fredrickson—was injured when her 2025 Honda HR-V rolled on Highway 169 near St. Peter after colliding with an unknown vehicle in Traverse Township; she received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.  Mankato Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MnDOT will resurface a 1.5-mile stretch of Watonwan County Road 3 near Madelia on Monday and Tuesday as part of the Highway 60 detour route for the Lake Crystal area. Eastbound traffic will use the existing detour while westbound vehicles will be rerouted via Blue Earth County Road 32 — flaggers will guide traffic through the work zone.  Mankato Free Press
  • New car seat guidelines set Aug. 1 require children younger than 13 to ride in the back seat when available. Children under 2 must use a rear-facing car seat until they reach weight or height limits (this switch may lead to a front-facing seat) and children aged 4 to 9 need a booster seat until a regular seat belt fits (seat belts replace the booster when criteria are met).  Mankato Free Press
  • Work on the Woodshire Drive reconstruction project will begin Monday at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Knollcrest Drive. The project covers Woodshire hillside and Woodshire Drive from Sylvan Way to the end cul-de-sac—phased closures on Madison Avenue and posted detours will affect traffic until the project is finished by October.  Mankato Free Press
