Good morning, Mankato. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 30th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Joe Holtmeier plans to redevelop 90 acres of quarry land north of Mankato as Rockwell RV and Adventure Park, which will include public mountain bike trails, a private campground, a cable park for water sports, and spaces for fishing and kayaking. Construction on the trails is set to begin late fall while campsites will open in June and environmental reviews are expected to finish by October—permit approval will follow if plans meet township rules.  Mankato Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local artist Isaac Kidder has created a sculpture called Inner Peace for the Mankato CityArt Sculpture Tour—he based the work on influences from family lineage and his background in music therapy and art. The piece is set in front of the parking ramp on South Front Street between Shared Spaces and Eide Bailly Tower and will be on display through April until 2026.  Mankato Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mankato Police have issued an average of under 20 citations each year in the past decade for illegal parking in disability spots, based on records from the Department of Public Safety. Public Safety Director Jeremy Clifton said officers may enforce the law in public and private lots (enforcement is usually complaint driven or at the request of property owners).  Mankato Free Press
  • South Central MN Multi-County Housing and Redevelopment Authority reduced voucher payment standards for Nicollet County effective January 1—lowering the rate for a two-bedroom apartment from $1,310 to $1,291—which may reduce monthly subsidy amounts. The new rates will be applied at a tenant’s second annual reexamination on February 1 or sooner if a tenant moves or their household changes, and affected residents are advised to contact their housing coordinator for review.  Mankato Free Press
