- ➤ Mankato native Richard Miller—aged 93—traveled to Omaha on July 1 to attend a ceremony honoring his late WWII veteran brother, Joseph, who died in battle in 1944. His daughter Linda said his participation brought him important closure after many years of staying in Mankato. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Police are awaiting lab results from a crash last week when 60 year old Susanne Renee Stephens Moe hit trees near Minneopa Golf Course at 6:30 p.m.+ off-duty responders rescued her from a burning car and took her to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while authorities check for alcohol involvement. - ➤ The St. Peter Police Department released the name of Courtney Rose Kleschult—who died on Feb. 23 from an accidental overdose due to fentanyl and cocaine toxicity—and linked her death to her boyfriend Eli Phillip Brunner of Mankato, who was charged with narcotics distribution. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Former Mankato Symphony Orchestra conductor Ken Freed died on June 29 after starting a sprint triathlon, and his memorial was held Sunday at Temple Israel in Minneapolis. He led the orchestra for 12 seasons—introducing new music programs like See Play Hear—and colleagues say his love for music will guide future concerts. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Construction began in March at Mankato West High School to redesign its entrances and add classroom space—funded by a referendum passed in 2023, the school will open this fall while the back parking lot near the YMCA remains closed for the year. KEYC
- ➤ On Monday, a crew worked at Mankato West High School as part of a reconstruction effort—approved by voters—to give students a safer, modern building that will be completed in 2027.
