- ➤ Local coordinator Mary Clare Wyrowski said Mankato has 25 unplaced exchange students needing host families, and International Experience in Northfield is urging families to open their homes (with a bed and lots of love) to support these students. - ➤ A Mankato woman, Jessica Bridget Rosillo, 36, was arrested and charged with first-degree possession of methamphetamine and aiding the sale of narcotics after agents monitored a controlled purchase at her home on May 27—she is set to appear in Blue Earth County District Court on July 17. - ➤ Early Wednesday morning, a stolen truck-trailer was abandoned in a ditch along Shanaska Creek Road near the airport, and deputies later took three juvenile males into custody on suspicion of motor vehicle theft as K9 units searched for suspects fleeing toward Lake Washington County Park — the investigation remains active. - ➤ Two 18-year-old Mankato men were charged with aiding and abetting second-degree attempted murder and aiding and abetting second-degree possession of a dangerous weapon after a Tuesday shooting near Hoffman Road and Victory Drive where a caller fired back from his garage when masked suspects opened fire without causing injuries – police later arrested Abdillahi in a vehicle with a loaded pistol and Ali outside the residence following witness reports. - ➤ Mankato attorney Aaron Zurek—who has worked in the public defender office since 2014—was named chief public defender for the 5th Judicial District by the Minnesota Board of Public Defense Tuesday afternoon. He will serve the remainder of a four-year term—ending in December and followed by a new four-year term starting in January 2026. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ The Blue Earth County Board of Commissioners received an $88-million estimate for safely removing Rapidan Dam (its partial failure more than a year ago changed the Blue Earth River) as officials say the damage has raised urgent concerns. County staff will review options (including delaying the rebuild of County Road 9 Bridge until after the dam is removed) and will seek federal aid to offset costs. KEYC
