- ➤ Mountain Lake resident Duane Franz, who has volunteered with the CARE program for a year and a half, said he was shaken after taking two asylum seekers to an ICE office in Sioux Falls when only one returned home—he noted that the new Laken Riley Act has changed the immigration process and deepened his commitment to help the community. - ➤ Two cars collided on Highway 60 in Le Sueur County Saturday afternoon—one person sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Dale Lewis’ 20-foot sculpture Shark! now stands on the Mankato end of the Veterans Memorial Bridge as part of the CityArt Sculpture Walk that shows his work on both sides of the river. Lewis said he built the piece using a Chevy chassis (inspired by a found toy) after delays caused by illness and transport issues. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ At Bridges Community School’s open field, the Mankato Baltics played vintage baseball using simplified rules that mirror the game from the 1860s and wore period clothing. The team faced Anoka’s Rum River Rovers on Saturday at around 1 p.m. and lost 13—7 as the event focused on fun and team camaraderie. Mankato Free Press

- ➤ Motorcycle lane splitting and filtering became legal on July 1 when a new law took effect—passed by the Legislature in 2024. The law sets strict speed limits and boundaries for safe lane sharing so riders must follow specific rules. Mankato Free Press
- ➤ The crosswalk on Pleasant Street behind West High is rarely used because sophomores take a shorter route from the farthest parking lot, explained Mankato’s interim public works director — Karl Keel. He said the marked crossing was reused from before the parking lot was built and may be moved when concrete work begins. Mankato Free Press
