COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army will host its annual Back to School Fair on Thursday at its headquarters on Riverfront Drive in Mankato from 11 to 2 to help local students start the school year. Blue Earth County and North Mankato K-12 students will get new shoes and a backpack if families show a state issued ID and proof of government assistance.  KEYC

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday afternoon, a 48-year-old Sleepy Eye man was injured when his truck rolled off Highway 15 and overturned in a ditch as he swerved to avoid colliding with an SUV near Old Fort Road—he received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries with alcohol ruled out.  Mankato Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Science teacher Kelly Moeller attended a solar energy workshop at Minnesota State University on Monday and Tuesday to learn to teach engineering and design with science while earning hands-on solar suitcase kits for her students—partners included We Share Solar, the Minnesota State Engineering Center of Excellence, and Xcel Energy, and one kit will go to a community in East Africa.  Mankato Free Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eagle Lake and MAPO are asking for public feedback on Highway 14 as MnDOT studies changes including two interchanges and a right-in, right-out at Casey’s—aimed at strengthening safety and accessibility. Mayor John Whitington said public input is vital as the feedback phase nears its end.  KEYC
  • A nearly completed transportation study recommends adding a freeway-style interchange at Highway 14 and Parkway and another at Highway 14 and Highway 60 along with a High-T intersection at County Road 56 in Eagle Lake to reduce crashes and ease growing traffic—costing an estimated $71M to be built in stages as funds become available.  Mankato Free Press
  • Plans to reconstruct County Highway 69 in South Bend Township will be discussed at an open house Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. at the Blue Earth County Public Works Office (35 Map Drive). The project set for fall into 2026 will include new bituminous pavement for driving lanes, road shoulders, and curb and gutter as well as a multi-use trail along the north side to support 10-ton vehicles.  Mankato Free Press
  • Road construction in St. Clair will start Monday and close part of Blue Earth County Road 28 between County Road 15 and the Le Sueur River until November, forcing drivers to take a detour on County Road 49, County Road 23 and Highway 83. The project will install water mains, sewer, house services and storm drainage—final turf and pavement work will be completed in 2026.  Mankato Free Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new training center called the Performance Lab opened at the Mankato Clinic Wickersham Health Campus, giving patients a seamless path from injury rehab to peak athletic performance—clients get personalized plans that mix diagnostics, therapy and training. Construction is ongoing and the facility will expand its services by early to mid-September.  Mankato Free Press
