CRIME NEWS

  • Mankato police responded to a disturbance call at the College Town apartment complex Saturday afternoon—this incident was not serious and followed a brawl that resulted in an arrest on Friday, with officers now reviewing safety protocols and increasing patrols in the area.  Mankato Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Carol Jackson joined a Saturday tour that visited sacred Dakota sites in Mankato, including the place where 38 Dakota men were hanged after 300 were held prisoner. ELCA theologian Kelly Sherman Conroy led the tour—emphasizing the dark local history—and explained the importance of remembering these events.  Mankato Free Press
  • A new book titled 'Voices of the Journey: Immigrant Stories from the Minnesota River Bend Area' documents the experiences of local educators, musicians, artists, a fireman and others who chose this region as their new home. The 208-page volume—featuring 47 first-generation accounts from 27 countries and launched at the Blue Earth County Library—is available for $15 and preserves local immigrant history.  Mankato Free Press
