ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A house fire on Bradley Street in Mankato at 2 a.m. Monday left two children dead — the top floor apartment held two adults and three children when the blaze erupted. FOX 9
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An 18-year-old man was charged with assault and rioting while armed with a baseball bat — officers responded to a call on Aug. 16 about a large group at a townhome complex near Minnesota State University — and he was later arrested at his home. Mankato Free Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ninth graders rushed to a temporary entrance at Mankato West High School Monday as construction delays from rain, a water main issue and mold cleaning forced changes such as canceling an Aug. 20 open house and moving band, choir and tennis teams. Contractors are working ten hours a day and plan to finish a new secured entrance by December + build gym and storm shelter walls by late January, though the project is three to four weeks behind schedule. - ➤ Students at Mankato East and West started classes on Monday as the district works to help families adjust—elementary schools now have new secure entrances and Mankato West is undergoing construction. An open house was postponed at the west school due to parking and mold concerns and other schools will open next week after Labor Day. KEYC
