GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Mankato City Council will set its preliminary 2026 property tax levy at Monday's meeting, with the proposed levy ranging from just over $10 million to $10.2 million. Three options offer increases from 0.641% up to 1.591%, and a potential monthly fee for street lighting may lower rates further—council members must certify the levy by Sept 30 before public hearings on Dec 1 and Dec 15.  Mankato Free Press

  • Mankato East boys soccer beat crosstown rival Mankato West 3-1 on September 13th thanks to Briggs Meyer's first-half goal — with goalkeeper Collin Pierskalla making crucial saves throughout the match.  KEYC
  • Minnesota State volleyball defeated Upper Iowa in a 3-0 sweep at Taylor Center, preserving a perfect 8-0 record. Mary Satori led the attack with 12 kills while Avery Rosenberg and Jadyn Lester added 11 kills and 29 assists, respectively.  KEYC
  • On September 13, Mankato East girls soccer beat Mankato West with a 7-0 win that reclaimed the rivalry trophy. Ava Peterson scored a first-half hat trick—giving the Cougars a strong lead at halftime.  KEYC
